Donald Trump indicted by Manhattan grand jury

A number of sources close to Donald Trump have confirmed to NPR that a Manhattan grand jury has indicted the former President. The charges are expected to be made public in the coming days, and make Trump the first former US President to be criminally indicted in the nation's history. The grand jury's indictment is expected to be unsealed in the coming days.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office stated that they had contacted Mr. Trump's attorney to arrange for his surrender to the Manhattan D.A.'s Office for arraignment on a Supreme Court indictment that is still under seal. Further guidance will be provided when the arraignment date has been selected.

The grand jury has been investigating hush-money payments made by Trump's former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016, in exchange for her silence on allegations that she had an affair with Trump.

Although Trump has denied having had an affair with Daniels (whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford), he has admitted to reimbursing Cohen for the money that was paid to her.
